Saw Chicken Run tonight. Loved it. (Andrew, however, was "bored out of my mind". Admittedly, he hates animation, but he was nevertheless looking forward to this.) But anyway, check out Mr. Showbiz' Chicken Run Movie Poster parodies.

Oh, I also saw Me, Myself, and Irene, which was good-not-great, which is a term that describes most movies I've seen lately. It wasn't quite as good as the 3-stars that Berardinelli gave it, and better than the 1.5-stars that Ebert gave it.

Unfortunately, Me, Myself, and Irene's box office got my $7.75 and Chicken Run got nothing. Oh well.

Well, as several people have pointed out, it's been a little quiet here at Tri-Llama-land. Lars is off to Louisiana to go fishin', and I've been swamped at work. But I felt compelled to put something up here. So, first of all, as you've probably heard, Dennis Miller will be joining the booth at Monday Night Football. How cool is that? I'll probably watch it for the first time ever, just to see how he does.

Second, if seeing Chicken Run this weekend isn't enough Nick Park/Aardman action for you, you might want to check out the three Wallace and Gromit shorts which are airing on the Cartoon Network Saturday night at 7:00pm and again on Sunday morning at 10:00.

Also, here's a new review from Salon of the Criterion Collection DVD for one of Lars' top ten films, (which I haven't seen all the way through, despite the fact that Lars sent me the tape), Hard Boiled.

George Will makes the point today that a Supreme Court which opens its daily proceedings with a chant that includes the words "God save the United States and this Honorable Court", and which sits across the street from a Congressional building which has on its taxpayer supported staff, two Chaplains, should not be pursuing, with such vigor, an apparent campaign to remove all vestiges of religion from public life.

Laaz wholeheartedly disagrees and shouts out major props to the court for its recent decisions which have done so much to advance this honorable cause. And as far as the future of George's two lovely examples of the convergence of Church and State go, I say "give us time."

And rest assured that when, at last, we get rid of those too, I'll say "thank you George, for pointing them out."

Interesting Laaz's lucky number story. Probably Schwartz is the only one who knows this, but Laaz's lucky number is 2750. Well just now, I was joking with an agent who told me Harvey Weinsteing is trying to hire one of her writers to adapt a novel for a very small fee. I said "So, he wants to pay him what? 27 dollars and no back-end?" The agent replied, "No, he wants to pay him $27.50!"

Weird.

What is it with rioting and sporting events anyway? This is definitely a late 20th Century invention. Remember when it used to be a big scandal? My attitude now is to just assume that some rioting will occur, and make plans to be away from the stadium at the moment the game ends. Monday night, I just kept thinking, "shit, if the Lakers win, downtown will burn." But at the same time, I wasn't concerned. Sports rioting doesn't seem like the dangerous kind of rioting (except when it's the result of a loss). There's never any fear in my mind that the crowds will spill over into other neighborhoods and start looting/attacking the populace. So, who really gives a shit? In fact, I sometimes feel like the presence of cops in riot gear can actually contribute to rioting. After all, if the video shots of L.A.'s latest run in with Lady Riot are to be believed, it seems like if the cops (and their cars) hadn't been there at all, there wouldn't have been anything for the rioters to burn.

I think the question of the new milenium, for large cities with sports teams, will be: Is the increased monetary windfall that sports championships bring, really worth the trouble? And, for the conspiracy minded among you, the question becomes, will some cities begin to exert pressure on their local sports teams to maybe not try so hard to win? Or, if they're going to win, maybe they would be so kind as to fix the games such that the championship wins occurs during one of the away games.

Hey! Maybe that's why the Saints have never won anything. The city of New Orleans is exerting pressure on the Saints to continue sucking so that the city won't burn in the euphoria of a post-superbowl victory riot! Yeah! That's it!!!

Sombody asked me Tuesday night if I was surprised or disgusted by the rioting. Two things struck me. One, it was more than 24 hours before the first person asked me that question. And two, the answer was no.

Hey everybody, did you see me on the news last night? I was the guy throwing the burning tree branch on top of the flaming cop car. Yeah, the guy in the Shaquille O'Neal shirt with the gang tags, that's me!

Actually, I missed the game entirely. I went to the gym. When we got there, there were literally three other people in the gym. I looked at the guy behind the desk and said "Hmm, must be a Laker game on or something."

He chuckled... almost certainly harder than you are right now.

Hey!!! My boy won "blog of the week" at Blogger.com. You go, crazy-sex man!!!

I take pride in two things:
1) I got in on the ground floor
2) Mine was the first "your neighbor" story ever published.

I was flipping around the mid-range cable networks (ie USA, FX, TNT, etc.) yesterday when I spotted the cast of Caddyshack, doing things I had never seen them do before (and I know that movie very well). I've never seen the DVD, so I don't know if cut scenes exist, but that seemed to be exactly what this was. Kinda funny, but I can definitely see why they were cut.

What I found annoying about this network's decision to show this expanded cut of the film was that, despite the added scenes, it was still edited for content. Would somebody please explain to me the freakin' point of adding scenes that the director didn't want in the original, all while turning right around and taking out others he DID want!?!? Ponderous man, fucking ponderous!

But even worse than deciding to show an expanded cut with all the funniest scenes edited out, was the inconsistency of the editing decisions, as far as content. They edited out every single reference to pot smoking, but left in Bill Murray's line about his hybrid grass strain... "Kentucky Blue Grass and California Sensimillia." Further, they cut the line "I smell varmit Poontang" but left in "He was my college roommate Mitch Cumstein" and "I just got head from Amelia Earhart." Are they suggesting that impressionable young minds might be familiar with the word "poontang", but not with the concept of "getting head"?

This inconsistent Puritanistic bullshit is getting sooooo tiresome.

Hey Kids,

The Love Virus has returned to my company's e-mail system. This time the headings to watch out for are "Funny Text", "Joke Text", "Life Stages", or "Life Stages Text." The attachment is "Male and Female stages of life". Don't open it unless you want everyone you know angry with you. Of course, if you do want that, fire away because, believe me, it works like a dream.

Well, I'm happy to see the Supreme Court today dealt two blows to those would like to force their religious beliefs on public schoolkids: they ruled on that case in Texas concerning prayers before football games, and they refused to review a decision that struck out a bible-related evolution disclaimer in a Louisiana case.
