Alright, let's hear it. I just know everyone is dying to point out how the heretofore unknown DUI arrest shows Bush is not fit to be President.

Just got an e-mail from a friend who said my Gore/Weinstein post was mis-leading. He asked me why I would lambaste Gore for taking money from Hollywood while continuing to criticize them on a matter of conscience. My response was as follows:

"Perhaps my post is not clear enough. I'm calling Weinstein to task, not Gore. If Gore can convince the very people he's targeted to support him, well then god bless him. I wrote a piece back when Lieberman was named the VP candidate telling the Republicans to lay off Al Gore and start criticizing Hollywood. I mean, if you can criticize an industry and still have them pouring money into your cause, how great is that!? I just can't understand why this industry is so desperate to put into office people who seemed determined to force our business to adhere to a standard determined by them.... It would be fine if Weinstein were saying Gore was the lesser of two evils, that I could understand, but this guy is absolutely desperate to get Gore into office. That's the paradox I don't quite get. I have no problem with Gore accepting money from an industry he clearly dislikes... we should all be so lucky. That's like getting turned down for a date by a hot chick but then somehow winding up sleeping with her, anyway."

You wanna know what's wrong with the NC-17 rating Mr. Lieberman? It's that no one can see past the drug-taking and (rare) bits of nudity to understand that Requiem For a Dream, despite the rating, is a movie that we should be falling all over ourselves to show to every teenager within shouting distance. I've seen this film, and Berardinelli is right on!

I was in the meeting referenced here and lemme tell ya. It was the most surreal experience of my life. The following quote sums up the true bizaritty of what is going on here:

"Gore Camp Sees No Problem With Weinstein's Support, Just His Movies"

Well, while we're talking about internet software, I gotta give mad props to Audiogalaxy Satellite. I've used Audiogalaxy's web site as a search engine for MP3's for a long time now (starting back when they were known as the Borg Search Engine). Well, FTP sites are becoming such a pain in the ass now, with ratios, banners you have to click on, and so on, I thought I would try Audiogalaxy's relatively new software Satellite, which is basically like Napster. I've never bothered to even try Napster because I hate the idea of downloading MP3's through my slow modem connection at home, and there's certainly no chance of it working through our firewall here at work. But last night I was on Audiogalaxy's site and just figured, what the heck?

I wasn't too confident, though, because I thought some of the music I was looking for was pretty obscure. See, during our flight home from Hong Kong, I was really enjoying the mix of music Cathay Pacific had on the techno channel of the in-flight entertainment system, so I grabbed the magazine on the way off the plane, with the intention of trying to download all the songs I heard, even though most of the artists I'd never even heard of. Well, little did I expect that Audiogalaxy would be able to give me 11 out of the 12 songs in one night!

I expect my computer is now going to be spending its nights downloading music for me from now on!

(Just for the record, the twelfth song, Citrus Paradisi by Kay Nakayama, is so obscure that a Google search only returns a single page, which is mostly in Japanese. The album only came out three months ago, so maybe it will just take time to spread around to the West.)

Well, the Lord taketh, and he also bendeth you over a wooden chair every now and again. Just as quickly as my IM got back up and running, it's back down and resting. It suddenly, in the middle of a conversation, kicked me off the system and is now working just like it has been for the last three months. Which is to say, not at all. Sorry folks.

Whoops! Call off the dogs. My buddy list was NOT wiped out... by God or any other force, natural or otherwise. I simply signed on with the wrong name. I'm going back to trillama, because that's where my buddy list remains... in tact.

Not sure how I did it, but somehow I managed to fix my Instant Messenger connection. Problem is that in the intervening months, my buddy list has been "wiped clean by the wrath of God." SO! I need anyone who would like to IM me to re-send me your ID please. Thanks. I am laazt, by the way.

Just to let everyone know, there are two high profile movies (I won't say what they are) which are in limbo until (at least) after the election. The problem is that they are "R" rated movies that cannot be successful without advertising on venues like MTV, and the people involved are terrified that if they seek that younger audience, they will be called before Congress and/or Smokin' Joe Lieberman and labeled peddlers of smut and violence to our nation's young people.

To all those of you who said I was being hysterical, I say....

Just got an e-mail from Susan, of "Susan and Phillip" fame, saying they got back from Cambodia just the other day. She said it was beautiful but the people were a little strange and not at all as friendly as the Vietnamese. I still wish we could've seen Ankor though, she said it was unbelieveable.

Any Nader fans out there? Specifically, in the swing states, such as California or Michigan? Afraid to vote for Nader because you'll be helping to elect Bush? Fear not! Contact me and we can be Nader Traders. I live in Virginia, which will go to Bush anyway, so I'll cast your vote for Nader and you cast my vote for Gore! (I wonder if Molly Ivins has heard of this.)

Today's Viet Nam News has an almost excrutiatingly detailed story about the Flag Tower in Ha Noi. The story says that it "towers over every building in the capital," which I find hard to believe, considering that apartment building at Hoa Lo was over 20 storeys tall.

Mike's post about descriptions of your own death got me thinking, and I believe I've found what may be a near-exact description of my most likely method of demise. Except I would add the words "At the time of the incident, Officers were traversing what Lars had jokingly nicknamed "The Gauntlet.'"
