I just saw the promo reel they used to sell Temptation Island to the networks. Now, I was with Bowel Boy on his complaints about how it can't be good if the pigeons know that deal going in, but I have to say, it's very VERY compelling television. The deal is they pick people whose relationships are on the rocks and treat this as a test to see if the person they are with is really THE ONE. Then they hook them up with people chosen for their resemblance to the person's "ideal mate." I saw a clip of one guy going after the cameraman shouting "I'm serious asshole, turn that F**cking thing off! This is my life!!!"
I'm so there.

Check out Berardinelli's review of Dracula 2000. A very funny review including this quote about the guy playing Dracula:
"It would be hard to come up with a worse choice for the Count - even violating Lugosi's grave and propping up his remains would result in a more animated performance."
As well as a comment that suggests to me that Jeri Ryan might get naked in this film.

While watching a Sports Center report on the possible return this week of Saints running back Ricky Williams I had cause to comment on how refreshing it was to see Saints News in mid-January that didn't have anything to do with the firing of a coach or loss of yet-another a franchise player to the competition.
Rock on Saints!!!

Here's an article from this morning's Post about disgusting websites, such as the aforementioned (in this space) Stinky Meat Project. I started reading through The Fat Project and it was pretty funny. (The underlying material isn't necessarily that good, but the guy's text and picture captions really bring it to life.)
(TheSpark.com is also the home of the previously recommended, in this space, "How to Lose a Fight so the Other Guy Goes to Jail".)

Here's a look forward at the movies of the year 2001 from Ain't it Cool News. I suppose Laaz can correct us on any major errors of Harry's judgement. (I know he tends to be easily excitable.)
On another note, am I the only one who saw the Hannibal trailer and was not blown away? It did absolutely nothing for me.

Now that Laaz is back in the land of the wired, I want to make sure he doesn't miss this Get Fuzzy strip.

Hey Hey, He's back ladies and gentlemen, all the way from a ten-day tour of two of the East Coast's largest cities... The LAAAAAZZZZ. Happy New Year to you all!
And now, back to the business of 3LP.
I got this book for Christmas and finished it in about four total hours of reading time. It wasn't that the story was all that fascinating, so much as the location was. So, bottom line, with Mike's approval (which I haven't actually sought out as of this posting), I would like to submit this place to you, the fans, as a possible destination for the next Tri-Llama travelogue.

Almost Everything We Thought About the Florida Recount is Wrong!, says this interesting article from Slate about the implications of a recent "press recount" of the overvotes in one Bush-leaning Florida county.

I've been meaning to blog this, but I keep forgetting. The first sentence from Mr. Showbiz' review of Dude, Where's My Car, which they gave a rating of 2 out of 100:At some point in the not-too-distant future, possibly next Wednesday, real people who have (or will have had) careers in Hollywood will experience a moment of clarity and realize — with that exquisitely slow-dawning sensation of horror generally reserved for nightmares about going to school without any clothes on — that, yes, they did in fact participate in the making and/or distribution of Dude, Where's My Car?

Cool. A black monolith appeared in the middle of a public park in Seattle on the first day of 2001, and no one knows who put it there. Was it aliens? You decide!

The Annals of Improbable Research conducted a "study" testing how the US Postal Service handles some pretty peculiar (and in some cases, disgusting) pieces of mail. The results are pretty entertaining.
While I was at the AIR site, I saw this essay about Structured Procrastination, by Stanford philosophy professor John Perry. I have noticed this exact procrastination phenomenon in myself. A couple of times this year I found myself suddenly finding the motivation to perform a task that I had been putting off for months and months. The motivation? The sudden appearance of an even more onerous task. It's amazing how much less unpleasant something can seem, when seen in the face of something much more unpleasant.
While I was at John Perry's site, I looked at some of his other "Light Essays." I found most of them really entertaining. Especially his Plea for the Horizontally Organized. I know exactly what he is saying. As I was reading through the article, though, it started to sound familiar to me. When he got to the part about his idea for replacing his desk with a giant lazy susan, I knew I had read this article before. After a quick search at the Washington Post archives, I realized I was right. The Post published his article in the Outlook section back on December 3, 1995. Damn, I'm good. If I remember correctly, there was even a cartoon accompanying the article. (Well, maybe next time I'm at the library, I'll dig through the microfilm and see if I'm right...)

Every year, the National Film Preservation Board of the Library of Congress adds 25 American films to its National Film Registry, films which are "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and which are set aside for preservation. Among the films this year was one of my favorites, Koyaanisqatsi. (Also on the list were films like Apocalypse Now, Network, Shaft, and Goodfellas.)
