It's taken a while, but this weekend Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon will break Life is Beautiful's record for the highest-grossing foreign language film in U.S. history.

I wanted to look at the Reminder List of films eligible for Academy Awards for 2000, and it was a real pain to find, so I figured I'd post the link here in case I need it again, or in case any of you need it. There are 244 films listed; I saw 38 of them. (Some of them I saw on video or on airplanes.)

Among the movies I didn't see, despite being locked in a pressurized metal tube for thirteen hours over the Pacific Ocean with little else to do: The Basketball Diaries, Gone in 60 Seconds, and U-571.

Movies I didn't see, but wanted to: Best in Show, Dancer in the Dark, Nurse Betty, O Brother Where Art Thou?, The Original Kings of Comedy, Requiem for a Dream, The Tao of Steve, and Time Code.

Movies I didn't want to see at the time, but do now: Erin Brockovich, Ratcatcher, Way of the Gun (yes, I've heard good things).

Just wait until you guys get a chance to see ENEMY AT THE GATES. Goddamn is that a good movie. Jude Law is some kinda movie star boy I tell ya. Ed Harris is really great too, and I didn't even find Rachel Weisz to be all that annoying. Look for Jean-Jacques Annaud to get nominated for best director next year, and remember, you heard it here first.

Couple inside Hollywood things:

First, I saw a trailer for MEMENTO this morning in a staff meeting and it looks freakin' awesom. There's a version of it at Harry's site. Here's the link.

Second, I saw, before SNATCH, a trailer for this movie 3000 MILES TO GRACELAND. Now, while I'm sure this movie sucks ass (and have heard from some people I respect that it doesn't really work), this is, truly, one of the coolest trailers I have ever seen.

If you haven't seen Curb Your Enthusiasm, or you missed the early episodes, and you have HBOPlus, then tune in tonight at 8 for the first episode: "The Pants Tent."

Tonight's NOVA sounds pretty interesting: Nazi Prison Escape. "The program documents a series of spectacular escape attempts made at Colditz Castle, the Nazi's most impregnable prison."

After reading Berardinelli's review, I am now quite looking forward to Saving Silverman. Apparently, the highlight of the film is one of my favorite actors who I didn't even know was in it!

For those that are interested, which by this point no longer includes me, I'm afraid, here's another article about Kevin O'Donnell's involvement in the making of Thirteen Days.
