Letter to the editor sent 7/30/04 to WSJ, LA Times, Wash. Times, and WashPost.
The 9/11 commission concludes that we are still not safe from terrorist attack and in his convention speech, John Kerry breathlessly echoed that assessment.
And yet in the days after 9/11, vast majorities of Americans believed that not only would we be attacked again, but that such an attack was "imminent."
But the other shoe never dropped, and I see only two reasonable explanations why not. Either the terrorists HAVE tried to attack us again and have been thwarted by The President's Homeland Security policies, or they have not been able to mount another attack because Mr. Bush's aggressive foreign policy has kept them has them so dogged, decimated and, well, dead, that they simply do not have the capability anymore.
So, while George Bush goes on about the thankless job of keeping America safe from Terror, Kerry spends his prime-time moments warning us that we are not safe, while simultaneously arguing that it is The President and his party who exploit our fears of terrorism in a shameless bid for votes.
One man has a proven plan to keep us safe, and the other not only doesn’t have any new ideas, but can't even seem to recognize the fundamental contradictions in his own position.
